The Kino Border Initiative, Nogales, Mexico (Nogales, Mexico and US)

Name:
The Kino Border Initiative, Nogales, Mexico

The Kino Border Initiative provides pastoral assistance, shelter, breakfast and other assistance to recently deported migrants on the border in Nogales, AZ. In addition to these basic services, the Centro de Atencion a Migrantes Deportados (CAMDEP) provides overnight shelter to unaccompanied women who may need time and pastoral attention as they discern their next steps.

The bi-national ministry is a collaborative effort among Jesuit Refugee Service/USA, the California Province of the Society of Jesus, the Mexico Province of the Society of Jesus, the Missionary Sisters of the Eucharist, the Archdiocese of Hermosillo and the Diocese of Tucson.

The Kino Border Initiative will provide direct assistance to men, women and children who have been deported from the U.S. to Mexico. Deportees who are citizens of Mexico are usually sent via bus to border crossings from California to Texas. From these garitas, or crossing areas, they walk back into Mexico. They generally have little or no money and only the clothes on their back.
