Located on the near south side of Milwaukee, this former convent is available for day and overnight retreats for parish and school staff. An accessible and affordable meeting place in the midst of the city’s urban scene, the facility puts retreatants in touch with the vibrant spiritual life of the neighborhood’s Latino community. This self-supporting renewal center and retreat house is the realized dream of Father Dave Shields, SJ and thus has decidedly Ignatian underpinnings. 

The Centro Altagracia is dedicated to faith in action; promoting social justice through active collaboration with parishes, community organizations, and individuals and through initiatives that serve the needs of the community as those needs have been identified by the Hispanic community of northern Manhattan. We seek to awaken awareness within individuals of how their Catholic, Christian faith calls them to be aware of the issues impacting their community and to be engaged in action to address these issues. Among the Centro's programs are: Social/Pastoral Ministry Teams that serve as coordinators and catalysts for social awareness and action within parishes; H.E.L.P. (Hispanic Evangelization Leadership Program) that trains young adults for leadership roles within their parishes; and G.R.A.C.E. (Gaining Respect and Awareness through Community Education) which addresses the issue of domestic violence. The Centro also maintains a library of books and DVDs for community use.

The Dominican Outreach Center or Centro Altagracia de Fe y Justicia (Altagracia Center for Faith and Justice) was formed by the New York Province of the Society of Jesus in response to the unmet needs of the Dominican community of the Washington Heights area. In a period of slightly more than one year the Centro Altagracia has been able to make incredible strides in establishing itself in the community through its work with the ten parishes of the North Manhattan vicariate, various community organizations, and elected officials.
 

The social ministries are active year-round and open to all parishioners to join in making the social mission of the church the essential and central mission of the parish.  Examples of ministries include: parish twinning with St Jude's parish in Haiti, ongoing social justice eduation programs, and fair trade coffee sales.

Gesu Social Concerns Committee oversees a number of programs to the homeless including a regular Saturday meal program, Sunday breakfast bags. Gesu parishioners also partner with downtown congregations offering shelter and day programs to the homeless individuals and families and Gesu parishioners were instrumental in the establishment of a Milwaukee Housing Trust Fund

MARCC is a Coalition, a way of enabling these 17 Jewish, Greek Orthodox, Roman Catholic, Muslim, and Protestant Judicatories to work together on a few, agreed-upon, local social Concerns to make life better for people in metropolitan Cincinnati.

In the language of sacred texts, the religious community can work on social problems in three ways:

• Prophetic (holding up the absolute standards of God or spiritual well being),
• Priestly (caring for each individual child),
• Sovereignty (or politically, choosing the best possible solution).

Nativity Fellows are full-time members of the Nativity staff. They teach an average of 2-4 class periods per day while serving as advisors, tutors, proctors, coaches, nurses, janitors, drivers, monitors and all other responsibilities that promote the success of the students’ well-being.

Casa Maria is the community house where fellows serving in Worcester's Nativity School reside.  Life in Casa Maria is an opportunity to form community and to engage in the tough work of sharing responsibility with each other for the myriad details which make life together possible and worth the effort. It is also a unique opportunity to engage in “simple living. ”Simple living" offers Nativity Fellows a chance to “feel” what life on a tight budget means, particularly as the overwhelming majority of Nativity families struggle to make ends meet. The Casa Maria Community attempts to gain a deeper sense of the difficult conditions from which Nativity students come.

Peace and Justice Programs aims to promote personal and social transformation. Towards the end of achieving these two objectives our work begins through the promotion of relationships. Through facilitating service, education and immersion experiences, we aim to actively engage the Xavier community in the lives of local, national and international communities. As students, faculty and staff get caught up in the lives of our local and global neighbors, in particular the lives of those individuals and communities who reside on our world’s social, economic and political margins, our programs foment and inform the desire and imperative to respond. In order to promote effective responses (and responders) we promote social analysis.

Proyecto Pastoral at Dolores Mission was founded in 1986 by community residents and the California Province of Jesuits. It has grown into a highly effective community - building organization. Proyecto Pastoral is committed to involving local community members in the planning, design and implementation of its programs. One third of the Proyecto Pastoral Board of Directors is comprised by local community residents responding to community identified needs enabling Proyecto Pastoral to make a significant impact in the lives of local families. Anticipating the needs of the community enables Proyecto Pastoral in being an ever evolving organization that whose success lies not only in being dynamic but understanding the real issues. Proyecto Pastoral serves over 2,500 children, youth and families annually through its five programs.

Proyecto Pastoral at Dolores Mission is a community building organization whose mission is to provide training, education and social services with the Pico- Aliso/Boyle Heights district of East Los Angeles. Proyecto Pastoral coordinates five community based programs.

Ministry members commit themselves to the protection of life which is threatened by war, the arms race, abortion, poverty, racism, capital punishment and euthanasia. Our parish believes that these issues are linked under a consistent ethic of life.
